Under pressure from associations representing no one and lobbyists lured by the gain of this measure, the government has 2 months to implement the motorcycle inspection. That is to say, defining its contours and its application before the date of August 1, 2023.
We are not losing hope of a new turnaround as in the past or of a very light application given the social context that France is experiencing.
03/01/2023: THE LATEST INFORMATION
The technical inspection for motorcycles would be reduced with four times fewer operations than the current technical inspection for automobiles.
The inspection frequency would also be changed, going from 5 years after first registration then every 3 years, rather than every 4 years for automobiles.
The Minister also confirmed the adoption of other measures such as the approval of E85 boxes, making it possible to reduce polluting emissions and obtain a less expensive registration document, as well as the possibility for motorcycles to benefit from bonuses for conversion.
The FFMC regrets that the various stakeholders are unable to agree and encourages bikers to continue their mobilization. They are even considering calling for civil disobedience against the announced technical inspection.
02/11/2022: NEW REBOUND
It's the return of the series, with a new episode and a new twist.
The Council of State has deemed the repeal of the technical inspection of two-wheelers illegal due to its environmental inadequacies.
Alternative measures to the CT proposed by the government in collaboration with the biker federations.
The Council of State considers the alternative measures ineffective.
Since this is not yet final, we are impatiently awaiting the new twist (or not).
What elements should the motorcycle inspection cover?
The motorcycle technical inspection should be based around 5 checks:
A visual check of the brakes
A visual check oftires
A visual check of thelighting
Note the importance of the term used: visual control.
The terms indicated in the decree
Concerning the terms of the motorcycle technical inspection, this will be carried out at the same place as the car technical inspections. That is to say, among professionals such as DEKRA, AS Self-Security, Verif’Autos etc...
For the price, we are talking about 50€.
For frequency, this should be 4 years for new motorcycles then all2 years.
Extract from article 8:
“Two or three-wheeled motorized vehicles and motorized quadricycles registered before January 1, 2023 are subject to a mandatory technical inspection according to the following schedule:
- The first inspection of vehicles registered before January 1, 2016 is carried out in 2023; - The first inspection of vehicles registered between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2020 is carried out in 2024; - The first check of vehicles registered between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021 is carried out in 2025; - The first check of vehicles registered between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022 is carried out in 2026."
For collector's motorcycles, it's the same rule as cars.
The opinion of biker defenders
For its part, theFFMCis against this technical control which will in no way improve thebiker safety.
It is considered amasqueradebecause established without any consultation, without reflection and without democratic vote.
In the end, this motorcycle technical inspectiononly benefits companies that sell technical inspection because theysee an easy future financial windfall. The investment will be low and the income significant.
For its part, the French State is going to implement the CT just so as not to have its fingers slapped by the European Union and be penalized by millions of euros...
What impact on prepared motorcycles
More fear than harm regarding this technical inspection which will not affect the freedom of enthusiasts to be able to personalize their motorcycles.
Indeed, changing parts on your motorcycle should not impact technical control. (Like on cars).
Subject to having brakes, indicators etc... Of course !
This motorcycle technical inspection looks like ascoop, becausethe majority of motorcyclists are careful and regularly check their brakes, tires and lighting(and not every 2 years...).
What tips to prepare
We strongly recommend that you always ride with a motorcycle maintained, and perform a regular check-up (not every 2 years as this inspection assumes...) of the safety bodies.
For the brakes, we check the wear of the pads and disks, as well as the shoes for the drum brakes. We change them when they are worn out.
For the tires, we check the wear indicators, as well as the age of the tires and we change them if they are too old or worn.
For lighting, we check the correct functioning of all the lights and indicators. Elements can be replaced if they are not performing well.
Concerningsound control, a DB killer baffle or a silencer with baffle will allow you to be within the DB limits for control. Other bikers will opt for the original exhaust during the MOT...
For thepollution control, this mainly concerns recent motorcycles. However, all motorcycles could be impacted as the measures are implemented.EPZ or restriction of the same type.
What is your opinion on this technical control which is only slightly technical in reality?
Are you also relieved to still be able to prepare your motorcycles? 🙏
When is this law now being applied in practice? How soon will our motorcycles on the roads have to pass the inspection?
How much will this bring in for the companies that will carry out the inspection?
Is this suspension good news with a view to canceling the MOT? Or is it a few extra months/years to gain?
